What Library benefits do alumni get?

The USM Libraries provide Alumni with Library privileges at no charge.

  • Alumni need to visit a USM Card Office to obtain an Alumni Card in order to have Library privileges.
  • Then stop by the main desk at one of the USM Libraries to have the library barcode on your Alumni Card activated for Library use or call 207-780-4270 and ask to have your Alumni Card activated.
  • Your Library Barcode is the 218... or 250... number on your Alumni Card.

Access to online resources is available while in any of the USM Campus Libraries. Alumni do not have access to the databases while off-campus. (The database licenses limit off campus use to current students, faculty, and staff.)

Alumni may use the public computers available in the Glickman Library, Portland, or use the guest WiFi with their personal devices in any of the three campus Libraries. Alumni may borrow books, and request books.

To request articles, alumni must have an Alumni Card and create an interlibrary loan (ILLiad) account. Alumni can request up to 50 ILL items/year. If you go over 50, there is a $35 charge. You will receive an email that your article has arrived. Just sign into your ILLiad account and click on Electronically Received Articles. You may print or download the article. Articles will be removed from your ILLiad account after 45 days due to copyright laws.
